Our Process

Using our advanced photochemical etch process, we can etch intricate textures, patterns and text into the surface of the metal. Surface etched areas can then be infilled with Pantone-matched inks if required. The same etching process can also be used to cut right through the steel for cut-out logos and shapes.

Pick a Metal Finish

We have a huge variety of metal card finishes to choose from; including Matt Black, Stainless Steel, Gold Plated finish, Rose Gold Plated, Silver Plated, Gun Metal, Antique Copper, Antique Bronze and many more.  We also have three standard thicknesses – 0.3mm, 0.5mm and 0.8mm.

You can request a sample of your chosen colour and thickness at this stage. We recognise how important it is to check the look, feel and weight of your cards before you order.

Design your cards

Once you've decided on what kind of finish you'd like, you can think about what design you're going to put on your cards. Let your imagination run wild! Browse our Inspiration Gallery to see which look or effect would suit your design best. Do bear in mind that you don’t need to be constrained to a standard size with standard corners. As long as the card stays within regular credit card dimensions (85.6 x 54mm), you won’t be charged any more for your own bespoke shape. Please contact us for pricing on special sizes either larger or smaller than this.

Choose from a range of different processes including: Brushing, Variable Data, Etch & Infill, Laser Engraving, Silk Screen Printing (including QR codes), Single Colour Printed Background, Cut Throughs, All Over Etch Background, Etching to the Card Edge, Magnetic Strips, the enhancement options available are endless.

We're here to help

The Metal Card Production team are experts with every aspect of design, production techniques and the manufacturing processes we use. Our photochemical milling or photo etching, is a chemical milling process used to fabricate sheet metal components using a photoresist and etchants to corrosively machine away selected areas. This process emerged in the 1960s as an offshoot of the printed circuit board industry, which is where our heritage with Antistat stems from.

To get the ball rolling, one of our design team will contact you for your logo or artwork after you have placed your order. At this point, you will be able to speak to us about all the specific details you need on your card, the size, shape, colours etc. If you’re unsure about exactly what you’re after, then we work with you to come up with a design that best fits your requirements.

Proof, Production & Delivery

Once consultation has happened, we will get to work designing your perfect card or process your artwork. We keep you in the loop every step of the way so if there is anything else you think you would like, or even if you want to start again from scratch, just let us know and we will accommodate your changes.

From approval of proof to getting your card delivered is usually about four weeks or quicker for our Fast Turnaround option, so as soon as you have approved the design, we will pass the design to our production team to begin creating your new cards. You can speak to us anytime, but once your proof is approved, we unfortunately can’t change the order.
